Williamsburg

Williamsburg is the story of Devorah Zelman (19) who has grown up in an ultra- Orthodox family in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her forbidden attraction and brief relationship with a hipster songwriter who works at a nearby secular bookstore rocks her world, putting herself and family at risk of being ostracized by the tightknit community. Devorah is left with the decision to walk toward her proper future or leave everything she has ever known for the hope of a bigger life. This is a story of one woman’s journey to live her authentic life...but what is the price of freedom?

Currently in development at the 35th Season of Powerhouse Theatre presented by Vassar and New York Stage & Film. Williamsburg is produced by Jeffrey Seller, with a book by Jason Katims, music by Tom Kitt, and lyrics by Marcy Heisler.
